Film Opening Research #1- Edward Scissors Hands

How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
During the opening sequence, there are a total of 3 titles about the movie and production studio and 12 titles address the production cast, not including the actors, however, there are 10 main casting members mentioned.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
Throughout the first scenes, there are images of machines, scissors, as well as the image of a hand nearing the end which ends at the image of a mansion.

What connotations do the images carry?
The images of the machines are shown to hint at the fact that they are creations and may be connected with Edward, viewers also see the image of a scissors referring back to the title as well as the image of a hand nearing the end which ends at the image of a mansion were these machines are and also makes the viewers think that is the plot of the story is going to begin.

How is the genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
This genre is reinforced through the classical music that plays throughout the opening. This is due to the fact that the film is a dark romantic fantasy and the music hits all aspects, being dark and mysterious while still being romantic.

How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
The film establishes an enigma by connecting the images throughout the opening giving the audience that later in the firm these images with play an important role in understanding the plot, as well as using music to pull everything together.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
I believe the type of music used is what appealed most to the audience. I believe this because of the dark and twisted mystery of the classical music is what made the connection with the images and made the audience feel drown to the meaning of these pictures and what really makes this film a romantic mystery.

How has technology been used effectively?
technology has been used effectively as the images shown using a faded transition as the camera shows close-ups and establishing shots of the environment and using the mise-en-scene adding the music to finally put everything together.

Lester is first seen with an Offscreen space when talking to Brad, outside of the frame. Brad is shown in the next  scene, as blocking,  occupying ...
